About the Role
Brooklyn Bridge Park (BBP) is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to oversee the custodial field operation of all 85 acres of the park. This role requires experience in managing multiple staff members and a strong understanding of custodial work, work management systems, and inventory management. The Operations Manager will direct a diverse staff to maintain the highest standards of custodial maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a leader in the custodial operation by inspecting all playgrounds, restrooms, and green space, and implement cleaning schedules and procedures.
- Oversee comprehensive cleaning projects that involve pressure washing & restroom deep cleanings.
- Work with the Deputy Director of Operations on the development and implementation of a parkwide inspection program for all areas of the park utilizing BBP’s operations asset management systems.
- Weekly Organization of the Maintenance & Operation yards.
- Work with NYC Parks Enforcement Patrol on day-to-day matters relating to park rules, regulations, safety, security, area closures, and other issues.
- Collaborate with the Maintenance and Horticulture heads on snow and ice removal, as well as other seasonal tasks.
- Assist with operational needs for all public events and film shoots.
- Support staff with cell phone troubleshooting and IT technology proficiency.
- Monitor and report on parkwide signage, collaborating on replacement and repair.
- Manage the inventory of equipment and consumable supplies used by the Operations team.
- Serve in an after-hours, on-call capacity.
- Coordinate with the Deputy Director of Operations on conducting staff reviews.
- Meet regularly with supervisors and custodians to provide guidance, establish expectations, and build team dynamics.
- Develop and implement a framework for a positive visitor experience, including staff interactions and conflict mitigation.
- Explore and implement new training and certifications for staff based on required codes and general staff development.
- Track and update employee certifications and training programs through BBP’s operations asset management system.
- Participate in the staff hiring, onboarding, and offboarding process.
- Utilize the work management system to schedule larger tasks for staff and supervisors.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- 5 Years of supervisory experience with a large staff
- 2 Years experience in park & recreation settings preferred
- Valid driver’s license
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience using work management systems
- Strong background in custodial field
- Detail-oriented, hardworking, and self-motivated
- Comfortable working independently or with a team in a park-setting
- Must be able to lift 50lbs
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in all seasons
