About the Role

This role involves planning and leading engaging martial arts classes for students of all ages and skill levels, providing personalized instruction, and fostering a safe and inclusive training environment. The instructor will also contribute to gym maintenance and promote the YMCA's values and mission.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead engaging classes for students of all skill levels (ages 6-adult).
  • Provide personalized instruction and feedback to improve student technique, stamina, and performance.
  • Create a safe and inclusive training environment promoting respect, discipline, and teamwork.
  • Assist with gym maintenance and cleanliness.
  • Develop and implement training programs and curriculum for different age groups and skill levels.
  • Encourage and motivate students to achieve their fitness and martial arts goals.
  • Stay up to date with the latest training techniques, trends, and safety guidelines.
  • Promote the YMCA's character values, mission, wellness philosophy, and community role.
  • Lead by example the Y’s mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests.
  • Become an Ambassador of the Y’s work and culture by storytelling.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Black Belt in Taekwondo.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of employment).
  • Previous experience as a martial arts instructor, preferably with experience working with youth and adults.
  • Strong knowledge of boxing techniques, self-defense, and martial arts principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and deliver dynamic and age-appropriate training sessions.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Experience Level

  • Previous experience as a martial arts instructor preferred.

Education Level

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Additional certifications in martial arts disciplines such as Tae Kwon Do or mixed martial arts are preferred.
