About the Role

The Baker Center professional tutor provides essential tutorial services, assists with monitoring activities, and trains peer tutors. This role also supports students with disabilities by providing specialized services and engaging in one-on-one tutoring.

Responsibilities

Provides tutorial services (both drop-in and online).
Helps monitor tutorial activities in the Baker Center.
Assists with training and mentors peer and para-professional tutors.
Makes recommendations for tutor certification.
Provides services for students with disabilities.
Demonstrates professionalism and develops training and other materials for the Baker Center.
Engages in one-on-one tutoring sessions with assigned high-risk students, particularly students with disabilities.
Conducts accommodation memo discussions.
Prepares alternate format texts and testing materials.
Participates in all aspects of testing accommodation provision.
Helps students learn and work with adaptive technology.
Develops training programs for peer and para-professional tutors.
Facilitates training for peer and para-professional tutors.
Oversees the follow-through of training for peer and para-professional tutors.
Schedules activities and plans special projects.
Develops new systems for the Baker Center.
Serves on committees within the College.
Creates Baker Center signs, handouts, and other materials.
Searches for potential peer and para-professional tutors.
Promotes Baker Center services.
Uses and promotes special projects such as Strengths Quest.

Requirements

Minimum of 2 semesters tutoring or teaching experience.
Bachelor's degree with a focus on coursework in an appropriate discipline.
Substantive coursework in a relevant discipline including, but not limited to, accounting, biology, chemistry, computer science, math, physics, or English/writing.
Two professional and one personal recommendation.
Ability to tutor College Algebra through Calculus 1.
Candidates must currently reside or be willing to relocate to New York State at time of employment.
Maintaining New York State residency will be required for the duration of employment.
