About the Role

Provide appropriate, efficient, and timely pre-hospital advanced, intermediate, and basic life support care and transportation for the sick and injured, adhering to local, state, national, and Acadian Ambulance standards of practice.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient examinations for signs and symptoms of illness/injury and assist medical personnel.
  • Administer basic, intermediate, and advanced life support care within licensure limits and approved protocols during transport.
  • Handle patients carefully during transport to and from the ambulance.
  • Ensure safe and efficient patient transport to the medical facility.
  • Facilitate safe patient transfer and information exchange with receiving personnel.
  • Document patient condition and treatment on EMS run reports, and complete other required documentation.
  • Conduct regular unit inventory and equipment testing to ensure all equipment is present, clean, and functional.
  • Complete assigned duties to return the ambulance and equipment to service post-transport.
  • Maintain full knowledge of ambulance equipment and its proper use.
  • Document and report needed equipment repairs to appropriate departments and supervisors.
  • Utilize basic extrication tools and procedures to gain patient access if necessary, in the absence of qualified personnel.
  • Control the patient's surroundings to minimize danger and manage bystanders, in the absence of qualified personnel.
  • Operate/drive the ambulance safely and efficiently in emergency and non-emergency settings, following company driving guidelines.
  • Adhere to FCC regulations when using electronic communication equipment.
  • Attend all mandatory meetings.
  • Complete assigned station and grounds duties.
  • Order supplies and equipment to replenish inventories.
  • Complete assigned ambulance cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Complete all required company reports and logs, and share information with relevant personnel.
  • Train new employees as a Field Training Officer.
  • Precept EMT-Basic, Intermediate, and Paramedic students as a Field Training Officer.
  • Fulfill the qualifications, requirements, functions, and responsibilities of Emergency Medical Technician – Basic and Intermediate job descriptions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • National and/or State certification as a Paramedic.
  • Current CPR certification (American Heart Association).
  • Current ACLS certification (American Heart Association).
  • Current and valid state-issued driver’s license (equivalent of Louisiana Class “D”).
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate professionally and effectively with employees and managers.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence or reports.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Knowledge of company protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies.
  • Ability to drive large vehicles in normal and adverse conditions.
  • Maintain social, ethical, and organizational norms.
  • Achieve accomplishment of all task details.
  • Maintain good personal motivation and a sense of ownership.
  • Possess a sense of urgency for all work performed.
  • Maintain professionalism and respect with patients, co-workers, emergency service providers, healthcare workers, and the general public.
  • Complete orientation to job requirements.
