About the Role
Confido is seeking an Engineering Manager to take direct ownership of a team of engineers. In this player-coach role, you will partner with the CTO to define and implement engineering leadership practices, focusing on career growth, hiring, and maintaining agility as the team scales. You will earn trust through technical credibility and by improving engineers' work, not through hierarchy.
Responsibilities
- Directly managing a team of 6–10 engineers, including 1:1s, coaching, career growth, and performance management.
- Owning team roadmap delivery through planning, prioritization, and unblocking engineers without introducing excessive process.
- Partnering with the CTO on organizational design, career ladders, and management practices for scaling the engineering team.
- Participating in architecture and design reviews for Rails, TypeScript/React, and Python systems.
- Building and managing hiring processes to attract and secure top engineering talent.
- Identifying and developing future leads and managers from within the team.
Requirements
- 3+ years of direct management experience for software engineers.
- 5+ years of experience as a hands-on engineer.
- Experience scaling through hyper-growth at an early-stage startup (Series A/B through Series C/D or beyond).
- Sufficient technical depth for design reviews and discussions with senior engineers.
- A proven ability to manage skeptics through competence and outcomes.
- A preference for lightweight processes, implementing structure only where it provides demonstrable benefit.
- Experience as a team's first manager or introducing management to a previously flat organization.
- Experience growing individual contributors into managers and building leadership teams.
- Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, TypeScript/React, or Python/ML systems.
- Experience in B2B SaaS, fintech, or data-heavy product environments.
