About the Role

The primary function of this role is to conduct and adjudicate a variety of hearings, making recommendations to the court. This position may require irregular hours, travel, and serving in an "on-call" capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting and adjudicating a variety of hearings to make recommendations to the court.
  • Reviewing various court documents and case law.
  • Assisting counsel in drafting settlement agreements.
  • Reviewing requests for personal protection orders and making recommendations to the court.
  • Representing the court in meetings and other public forums.
  • Collaborating with other courts, law enforcement agencies, and government agencies to research and resolve issues.
  • Performing specialized legal research and reporting, resolving discrepancies to ensure compliance with rules, court orders, policies, and laws.
  • Receiving and processing requests for information, actions, forms, orders, notices, and related information.

Requirements

  • Member in good standing with the State Bar Association of Michigan.
  • Valid driver's license and personal vehicle insurance.
  • Must maintain eligibility to drive as per the County's Vehicle policy.
  • A background check may be required initially and periodically.
  • Appointment to or continued employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check.
  • May be required to serve in an "on-call" capacity.

Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of court rules, applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and basic mathematical functions.
  • Proficiency in developing appropriate written correspondence and reports.
  • Skill in using personal computer software, including word processing.
  • Interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate sound ethics and judgment.
  • Ability to think analytically, apply sound judgment, solve problems, make effective decisions, and act with integrity.
  • Ability to explain complex policies and processes in layman’s terms.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries.
  • Able to use County resources effectively and efficiently.

Salary/Compensations

  • $91,283.00 - $114,138.00
