About the Role

Renders assistance to patients and professional staff within an assigned unit or community site, supporting medical care as directed by nursing and medical staff, and in compliance with Center objectives and policies. Performs job duties in accordance with systems and job-specific standards, and undertakes additional assigned tasks.

Responsibilities

• Completes or assists in the completion of various patient forms such as insurance claims, disability forms, and medication approvals.
• Prepares exam rooms and equipment, and assists/chaperones during patient examinations and treatments.
• Coordinates and facilitates the orientation and training of new Medical Assistants.
• Works with Nurse Manager and Operations Manager to coordinate clinical workflow and assist other Medical Assistants with processes.
• Performs in-house laboratory tests, quality control, and equipment maintenance according to organizational protocols.
• Cleans and sterilizes all equipment, logging actions per organizational policy and/or manufacturer guidelines.
• Maintains stock of clinical areas and laboratory supplies, ensuring dated materials are current and expired supplies are disposed of.
• Performs basic clerical work in the service area, answers phones appropriately, communicates issues to nursing staff, and handles telephone inquiries.
• Performs, trains, and documents CLIA controls.
• Draws blood and collects other specimens as directed by providers and processes them accordingly.
• Conducts routine tests in areas such as serology, hematology, chemistry, histology, and cytology using standard techniques and equipment.
• Collects specimens for outside labs (e.g., Pap, cultures).
• Performs EKGs.
• Takes vital signs, vision, and hearing tests; records patient data in eCW (laboratory results, pain level, PEAS, PhQ, Smoke status, etc.); documents reason for visit and ensures CVRs are completed as needed.
• Ensures all appropriate logs are maintained and keeps records for laboratory tests.
• Coordinates and facilitates the orientation and training of Medical Assistants on new equipment and procedures.
• Completes and coordinates prior authorization requests for medications, diagnostic tests, specialty services, durable medical equipment (DME), and other treatments as required by insurance payers.

Requirements

• CPR/BLS certification.
• Medical Assistant Diploma or Certificate.
• National Certification from an accredited institution (PREFERRED); candidates with qualifying national certification may be eligible for compensation placement within the Certified Medical Assistant structure.
