About the Role
Block by Block employs Ambassadors to make public spaces friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities they serve. This role offers high visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in an assigned zone, while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor.
Responsibilities
- Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile to provide directions and/or city information.
- Remove litter such as fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris from streets, sidewalks, and alleys.
- Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, and news boxes.
- Pull weeds from tree wells, sidewalk cracks, and vacant lots.
- Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces like trash can lids and news boxes.
- Observe for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios.
- Complete basic daily reports of tasks completed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with two 15-minute breaks and a 30-minute lunch break.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions.
- Must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language to complete basic daily reports.
