About the Role
The Head of AI will be a pivotal member of the executive leadership team, shaping the strategic direction of the firm’s key initiatives in close partnership with innovation and technology teams. This role is responsible for building and leading the execution of AI strategies to transform products and services, aiming to make the firm the most technologically sophisticated asset manager globally. The position requires a blend of technological understanding, strategic foresight, and growth-oriented excellence, reporting directly to the CEO and engaging with the Board of Directors.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the driving force behind innovation by developing and implementing a cohesive AI and technology strategy.
- Accelerate progress and ensure both short-term impact and long-term transformation through advanced artificial intelligence initiatives.
- Lead research and development initiatives to drive AI-powered innovation.
- Continuously evaluate emerging artificial intelligence and learning prospects for potential business applications.
- Serve as a thought leader and strategic ambassador for AI to internal and external stakeholders.
- Champion the adoption of advanced artificial intelligence technologies.
- Build and mentor a high-performing AI and technology team, fostering an inclusive environment.
- Support individual growth and department objectives by equipping team members with advanced AI skills.
- Collaborate with wider technology, finance, and risk teams to establish and uphold AI standards and best practices.
- Apply a comprehensive understanding of technical infrastructure to guide the development of robust, scalable, and secure systems.
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks associated with AI technologies.
- Implement comprehensive data security and privacy protocols tailored to AI systems.
- Oversee the governance, quality, and integrity of data used in AI systems.
- Implement robust data management protocols for accuracy, security, and compliance.
- Enforce robust processes, systems, and controls to protect the firm against cybersecurity threats.
- Collaborate with leading AI technology providers to enhance solutions and accelerate innovation.
- Develop and manage the AI and technology budget, ensuring strategic allocation of resources.
- Monitor industry trends in AI and evaluate their applicability to the firm.
- Lead innovation initiatives or pilot programs and assess ROI.
- Leverage AI and technology to ensure client experience and partnership always take priority.
- Understand how the business runs to provide reliable service.
- Drive strategic initiatives and organizational transformation by collaborating with executive leaders and leading steering committees.
- Partner with technology to foster mutual understanding and collaboration for meaningful change.
- Resolve operational challenges proactively and foster a culture of transparency and accountability.
- Facilitate a culture of trust and collaboration by understanding team strengths and motivations.
Requirements
- Master’s in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or related quantitative field.
- 10+ years of experience in AI strategy and transformation with related technology roles.
- At least 5 years in a leadership or managerial capacity.
- Extensive experience in senior transformation leadership and partnership.
- Proven track record of strategic AI planning and execution.
- Demonstrated experience leading AI-driven research and development (R&D) initiatives.
- Strong track record of bringing innovative products to market.
- Proven experience in building and developing a high-performing team.
- Comprehensive understanding of how core technology disciplines interconnect and support the broader technology ecosystem.
- Exceptional leadership skills.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technology/innovations AI strategy and its broader implications to stakeholders at all levels.
- Strategic perspective, combined with an exceptional problem-solving mindset.
- Ability to make sound decisions using a blend of analysis, experience, insight, and sound judgment.
- Excels at building strong partnerships across organizational boundaries.
- Demonstrates the ability to influence senior decision-making by supporting recommendations with rigorous data analysis and a collaborative approach.
- Familiar with techniques and tools to ensure AI ethics and data security (e.g., bias detection, explainability techniques, data anonymization).
- Understanding of how to implement controls for sensitive data handling in model development.
- Collaborating closely with executive leaders and leading steering committees to drive strategic initiatives and organizational transformation is essential.
- Demonstrated success in partnering with technology, fostering mutual understanding and collaboration.
- Effectively navigates complex and challenging scenarios.
- Offers insightful leadership, facilitating a culture of trust and collaboration.
- Willing to adhere to the provisions of our Investment Advisory Code of Ethics.
- Understanding of the regulatory obligations of the firm and abide by regulated entity requirements and JHI policies.
