About the Company
- The Tierschutzverein für Berlin und Umgebung Corp. e.V. is one of the most experienced and largest animal welfare organizations in Germany, dedicated to the protection and welfare of animals since its founding in 1841.
- The Tierschutzverein für Berlin is the sole shareholder of Tierheim Berlin gGmbH and finances its work exclusively through donations, bequests, and membership fees.
- Tierheim Berlin cares for over 1,300 animals daily, including dogs, cats, rabbits, and parrots.
- Europe's largest animal shelter provides care 365 days a year for homeless animals in the capital.
- Key tasks include taking in and rehoming animals in need, promoting practical animal welfare in Berlin and the surrounding area, and educating about animal welfare, environmental, and nature conservation.
- A significant part of this work involves caring for approximately 10,000 stray cats in Berlin, supporting their feeding monthly with around 8,000 cans of cat food.
- The organization also sterilizes free-living parent cats, cares for, and rehomes their offspring. In 2024, 1,150 cats were sterilized in our veterinary practice.
- The close collaboration between the Tierschutzverein für Berlin and Tierheim Berlin is reflected in their shared vision: a society where humans and animals live together respectfully, where all animals have the right to a free and species-appropriate life, and are recognized as individuals.
