About the Role

The Head of Law at Regent College London will provide leadership and strategic direction to the School of Law. This role is responsible for driving academic excellence, developing innovative programs, and fostering industry collaboration within law, legal studies, criminology, and forensic sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the alignment of academic programmes with emerging industry trends.
  • Foster a culture of academic excellence, continuous improvement, and inclusivity.
  • Oversee the development of new programmes and the continuous review of existing programmes.
  • Work collaboratively with the Leadership Team to share best practice.
  • Ensure the quality and delivery of teaching and learning.
  • Ensure the School maintains its regulatory requirements.
  • Support staff in their academic development.
  • Encourage and support scholarly activity within the School.
  • Lead initiatives to support student engagement, retention, and achievement.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to academic staff.
  • Assist with recruitment, performance reviews, and professional development opportunities for staff members.
  • Promote diversity and inclusion within the School.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industry partners, professional bodies, and academic networks.
  • Actively engage with university partners to foster a positive working partnership.
  • Represent the School at external events, conferences, and seminars.
  • Collaborate with industry leaders to ensure curriculum reflects sector needs.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for external collaboration, consultancy, and industry partnerships.
  • Ensure the effective allocation and management of resources.
  • Seek out funding opportunities and grants.

Requirements

  • An LLM or equivalent in a relevant discipline (law, legal studies or related field) from a recognised institution.
  • Significant experience in academic leadership, preferably at a senior level (e.g., Head of Department, Associate Dean, etc.) within a higher education institution.
  • Proven track record in teaching, curriculum development, and academic management within the fields of law and/or legal studies.
  • Experience in strategic planning, staff management, and financial oversight in an academic setting.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and deliver outcomes.
  • A commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline (law, legal studies or related field) from a recognised institution (Desirable).
  • Experience in managing interdisciplinary teams and collaborative teaching initiatives (Desirable).
  • Prior experience working in a leadership role within a college or university that offers courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels (Desirable).
  • Engagement with academic and industry networks in the fields of law and legal studies (Desirable).
  • Experience working with franchised and/or validated partnerships (Desirable).
  • Knowledge of current trends and innovations in law and legal studies disciplines (Desirable).
  • Familiarity with accreditation processes and regulatory bodies within higher education (Desirable).
  • Successful applicants will be required to complete pre-employment checks, including a criminal records check, two references, ID and Right to Work verification, and education confirmation.
