About the Role

The Japanese-Speaking Contract Advisor will play a key role in the formation, tendering, evaluation and award of major Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts for the Japan Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) project. The role will support the development and execution of EPC procurement strategies, preparation of tender documentation, contract formation activities, bidder engagement, tender clarification management, commercial evaluations, contract negotiations and award recommendation processes. The Contract Advisor will ensure commercial, contractual and procurement activities are executed in accordance with project governance requirements while maintaining consistency, transparency and competitiveness throughout the procurement process. The role requires strong EPC contracting experience, commercial acumen, contract drafting capability and fluency in both Japanese and English.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of EPC contracting and procurement strategies
  • Prepare and review Invitation to Tender (ITT) packages, EPC contract documentation, and commercial contract structures
  • Develop tender evaluation methodologies, evaluation criteria, and governance processes
  • Manage tendering activities, bidder communications, clarification processes, and document control
  • Conduct commercial and contractual evaluations of EPC tender submissions, including comparative bid analyses and risk assessments
  • Identify contractual and commercial risks and support the development of risk mitigation strategies
  • Lead commercial alignment discussions and support negotiations of key contractual and commercial terms
  • Prepare tender evaluation reports, commercial assessments, and contract award recommendations
  • Coordinate between Japanese contractors, project teams, legal counsel, procurement, and other key stakeholders
  • Ensure procurement and contracting activities comply with governance, compliance, audit, and ethical requirements

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in contract management, contract advisory, commercial management, or procurement-related roles
  • Proven experience in EPC contract formation, tendering, evaluation, contract negotiation, and contract award activities
  • Experience in energy, oil & gas, LNG, petrochemical, infrastructure, or large-scale industrial projects
  • Experience evaluating EPC tenders from commercial and contractual perspectives and managing bidder interactions
  • Strong experience in commercial negotiations and contract risk management
  • Experience preparing Tender Evaluation Reports (TER) and contract award recommendations
  • Strong understanding of contractual risk allocation and commercial principles
  • Fluent Japanese (native or business-professional level) and English (business level or above)
