About the Role

Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and support on entity incorporation, structuring, and obtaining necessary licenses for power generation businesses, including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), onshore wind, and solar projects, particularly concerning foreign investment.
- Advise on the renewable energy/power generation regulatory framework, including tender documents, bidding requirements, consortium agreements, project financing, PPAs, and other industry-standard contracts.
- Draft and negotiate contracts in English and/or Japanese for the renewables industry, such as NDAs, sales agreements, EPC contracts, and joint development agreements.
- Advise on general business law matters, including corporate issues, disputes, procurement, HR, data, safety, insurance, and sustainability.
- Support M&A transactions in Japan, including deal structuring, document review, due diligence, and post-closing integration, coordinating with internal teams and external counsel.
- Represent the legal department in liaisons with the Country Manager, Business Development Units, and other support units like Finance and Engineering.
- Anticipate and manage legal risks associated with business strategy and operations.
- Monitor legislative developments and ensure business operations comply with relevant laws and regulations.
- Proactively educate business employees on compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Deliver high-quality work within deadlines and manage the legal budget effectively.
- Undertake any other assignments as required by the APAC General Counsel or Legal Head Office.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Laws from a reputable university and qualified as Bengoshi.
- 3-5 years of relevant energy renewables experience.
- Previous experience in an in-house legal capacity is preferred but not compulsory.
- Ability to work in both English and Japanese is compulsory.
- Mandarin speaker proficient in traditional Chinese who can support the Taiwan market is an added advantage.
