About the Role
This articling opportunity offers law students hands-on litigation experience, managing Small Claims Court files, supporting complex litigation matters, and assisting with privacy compliance initiatives. It provides a unique learning experience in corporate, commercial, litigation, privacy, regulatory, and energy law, with opportunities for research, drafting, negotiation support, and advising stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Independently manage a portfolio of Small Claims Court files from intake through resolution.
- Support the legal team on complex litigation matters, including legal research, drafting pleadings, and case management.
- Assist with the organization's privacy portfolio, supporting privacy compliance initiatives, responding to privacy-related inquiries, and contributing to investigations and risk assessments.
- Contribute to complex legal matters through legal research, drafting agreements and pleadings, supporting negotiations, attending meetings and court proceedings, and advising internal stakeholders.
Requirements
- Qualified to commence articling in August of 2027 in accordance with the requirements of the Law Society of Ontario, for a period of ten (10) months.
- Demonstrated interest and aptitude in litigation, energy, regulatory, corporate/commercial, or business law is an asset.
- Student advocacy, moot team, legal clinics or other practical legal settings is considered an asset.
- Highly responsible and proactive, with a customer-focused mindset and a proven ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders.
- Excellent legal research, analytical and writing skills.
- Sound judgment, business acumen and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
