About the Role
HDR is seeking a Structural Designer/EI to join our Hydropower Practice. This role involves performing routine engineering assignments, preparing design criteria, calculations, drawings, specifications, and supporting inspections and condition assessments of existing facilities. The position offers opportunities to work on innovative hydropower, pumped-storage, and dam safety projects within a dynamic work environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine engineering assignments with instruction.
- Prepare and check design criteria, calculations, drawings, permitting documents, and construction specifications.
- Review and evaluate bid packages.
- Support inspections and condition assessments of existing facilities.
- Conduct field inspections with senior engineers and assist in data collection.
- Perform construction oversight.
- Prepare inspection and analysis reports.
- Work independently on small projects or assist senior engineers on larger projects.
- Perform duties in other engineering disciplines such as mechanical or hydrology and hydraulics.
- Adapt to changing client needs and fulfill a variety of roles on a project.
- Function in several areas on a project under the guidance of senior staff, including desk engineering, field work, and project management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RISA, Staad, SAP, Tedds, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar software.
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Education Level
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or related engineering field.
- Engineer intern (EI)/ Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate.
- Candidates without their EI will be titled “Structural Designer” and will be expected to obtain their EI for career progression.
