About the Role
The Occupational Therapist (OT) provides clinical services including assessment, caregiver consultation, home programming, parent training, and treatment to foster children's optimal development and address extra support needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group clinical services to children 0-14 years of age.
- Observe children and gather information from parents and/or staff.
- Model and identify strategies to modify/adapt the environment and activities to promote skill development and access to learning at home, school and/or community.
- Plan, develop, and implement educational programs for parents, caregivers, and/or children.
- Provide intervention on an individual or group basis for children.
- Provide recommendations for individualized occupational therapy programs for children.
- Provide consultation, education and counseling to parents/legal guardians on pertinent occupational therapy topics.
- Provide program consultations to Macaulay’s Community Programs.
- Design and deliver professional development opportunities for Macaulay staff.
- Collect evaluation data.
- Work directly with children with complex developmental, social, emotional and behavioural challenges.
- Prepare summary reports that will include strategies and recommendations in the areas of concern.
- Ensure that all program related functions, such as summary plans, data collection and reports are completed in a timely manner.
- Maintain appropriate up-to-date records and other administrative requirements in accordance with Agency policies and recording guidelines.
- Participate in Agency or community task forces, committees, and /or work groups as needed.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy and a member in good standing of the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
- At least 3 years providing occupational therapy services to the pediatric population.
- Outstanding problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication and listening skills.
- Computer literacy required and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, internet and email.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective work partnerships with parents/families, colleagues and service providers of diverse backgrounds, abilities and identities.
- Ability to work well within an inter-professional team and to foster effective working relationship.
- Excellent time management skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a car is required.
- Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check.
- Able to work some evenings and weekends to accommodate service delivery.
