About the Role
TAR builds fully islanded, off-grid solar and storage campuses that deliver hundreds of megawatts of clean, firm power to AI data centers. As Head of Interconnection & Transmission, you will own turning surplus solar energy into revenue through grid interconnection, transmission, market participation, and monetization for our West Texas campus and future campuses. The core constraint is ensuring the islanded system always functions, and export never becomes a dependency. This senior player-coach role reports to the co-founders.
Responsibilities
- Manage ERCOT generation interconnection from queue entry through commercial operations.
- Lead Point of Interconnection (POI) selection and generation tie (gen-tie) development.
- Define the export architecture, including Private Use Network (PUN) topology and settlement design.
- Drive ERCOT market entry, including Resource Entity registration and QSE management.
- Build the monetization strategy for export scheduling, storage arbitrage, ancillary services, and REC sales.
- Own the economics of curtailment, balancing grid export against incremental storage and flexible offtake.
- Engage with PUCT and ERCOT stakeholder processes to shape rulemakings.
- Develop a repeatable interconnection playbook for future campuses.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in ERCOT interconnection, transmission development, or wholesale market operations.
- Experience taking at least one generation project from queue entry through commercial operations.
- Deep understanding of ERCOT nodal market design, Planning Guide and Protocols, Private Use Networks, resource registration, and TSP processes.
- Established working relationships with ERCOT staff, TSPs, QSEs, and the PUCT.
- Commercial acumen to build revenue models and manage study processes.
- Experience with co-located load and generation structures or large-load interconnection policy (nice to have).
- Multi-ISO exposure (WECC, SPP, MISO) for future expansion (nice to have).
- Power systems engineering background (PE license is a plus).
