About the Role
The Custodian supports the efforts of Custodial Services to maintain safe, clean, orderly, and sanitary conditions throughout the campus community. This is a full-time, year-round position with a flexible schedule that may include extended shifts and reporting to work during college closures.
Responsibilities
- Perform general custodial work to maintain safe, clean, orderly, and sanitary conditions in buildings and adjacent grounds.
- Maintain a clean and orderly workspace that meets environmental health and safety standards, including managing universal and hazardous waste.
- Collaborate effectively with diverse colleagues, ensuring a respectful and inclusive climate.
- Strip, screen, and refinish floors, extract carpets, wash walls, ceilings, and glass.
- Perform snow removal and support the campus-wide recycling program.
- Complete monthly work request forms, building inspections, and student damage reports.
- Troubleshoot and carry out routine repairs of cleaning equipment and building trade-related issues that do not require a license.
- Assist special services and event support services as needed for events and general trucking on campus.
- Act as the first line of stewardship in preserving campus buildings.
- Clean and maintain, regularly inspect, monitor, and report maintenance issues.
- Manage waste, inventory supplies, and conserve energy by monitoring lights and electronics.
- Communicate and coordinate with students, OSA housing staff, and academic/administrative staff regarding observed issues.
Requirements
- A valid driver's license and successful credentialing to operate college vehicles.
- Basic math skills, including adding and subtracting.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong customer service, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Commitment to contributing to an intentionally inclusive and respectful climate.
- Attention to detail.
- Successful completion of required reference and background checks.
- An acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check.
- Successful completion of pre-employment physical and lift test.
