About the Role
The Sustainability Director leads the execution of the OU sustainability strategy, contributing to its development and communication. This role reports to the OU QSE lead and is responsible for building and aligning the strategy for execution in partnership with bottling operations, corporate teams, and other stakeholders. The position also drives capability development, embeds sustainability priorities into business decision-making, and supports OU/system ABP and LRP with financial and operational planning inputs. The role ensures compliance with company governance and regulatory requirements for operations and sustainability data reporting, fostering relationships with government agencies and providing expertise on packaging, water, and climate topics.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the optimum and accelerated implementation of the OU sustainability strategy within the global strategy and commitments.
- Define and steward the OU sustainability strategy, commitments, initiatives, and prioritization to implement the OU growth agenda.
- Ensure accelerated progress of sustainability commitments across water, carbon/climate, and packaging.
- Ensure OU sustainability-by-design leadership in innovation and across the supply chain.
- Influence the OU sustainability agenda and investments.
- Ensure all license-to-operate and KORE sustainability requirements and OU governance are in place.
- Ensure the technical sustainability innovation pipeline and agenda is in place.
- Drive top and bottom-line growth and create competitive advantage through innovation.
- Lead the implementation support for all operational sustainability aspects that protect and enhance regional and corporate reputation.
- Drive organizational alignment on operational sustainability across OU-Bottling partners and relevant functions.
- Act as an active contributor to the Global Environmental Council.
- Champion KO System sustainability to enable business growth.
- Bring the external view in, drive external engagement and benchmarking.
- Ensure leadership presence in industry associations.
- Determine the OU water risk management framework and priorities.
- Work with business to drive water risk assessments and monitor water risks with a focus on local operations.
- Provide technical guidance on establishing collection schemes in markets.
- Influence and shape technical sustainability investment plans, including complex analysis of cost/infrastructure developments and strategic partnerships.
- Collaborate closely with key stakeholders such as PACS, OU Commercial/Brand, and Bottling counterpart leadership teams.
- Shape the sustainability communication strategy and execution plans.
- Connect with external and internal networks and stakeholders to drive performance and benchmarking efforts.
- Shape forward-looking strategies and transform people and organizational capabilities accordingly.
Requirements
- University/bachelor’s degree in science, Technology or Engineering.
- Excellent technical understanding of environment, water, and energy management.
- At least 5+ years of experience in the Sustainability field at a corporate sustainability capacity, consultant, or energy developer.
- Passion for Sustainability and its intersection with business.
- Attentive to new trends in the industry and requirements in the Climate/Water work spectrum.
- Communication skills to collaborate with multiple stakeholders.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty when establishing new processes and workflows.
- Good strategic thinker to translate vision/strategy into clear execution plans.
- Advanced English and Japanese.
- Leadership experience in leading transformation programs and change management.
- Technical operations, manufacturing or supply chain and QSE operations experience > 5 years with people management experience.
