About the Role

Performs imaging and therapeutic services, along with associated patient care, to support the Radiology Department's mission of providing diagnostic information for patient treatment at WVU Medicine. This role aligns with the duties of a Radiology Technologist - Level I.

Responsibilities

• Rotates through all Diagnostic areas (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics) for technical skill development.
• Performs image procedures based on patient assessment, service request, and imaging protocols, with monitoring through periodic image evaluations and supervision.
• Produces optimal quality images using imaging equipment and systems for image delivery and archiving.
• Selects exposure factors based on patient's size, condition, and pathology to achieve optimal image quality with minimal radiation exposure.
• Minimizes radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff using shielding, collimation, inverse square law, and by minimizing repeat exposures.
• Maintains expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology relevant to imaging to optimize procedures and ensure patient care and safety.
• Assesses patient needs and provides imaging-related comfort, hygiene, and range of motion support.
• Prepares contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays according to procedural guidelines and protocols.
• Educates patients about radiographic procedures by explaining the process and answering questions.
• Promotes a team approach to Radiology services through positive interaction with technical, support, nursing, and medical staff.
• Engages in problem-solving, crisis management, systems implementation, and performance improvements to promote efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective patient care.
• Displays imaging techniques, patient care, and guest relation behaviors in accordance with ARRT Code of Ethics, WVUH Administrative Policies and Procedures, Radiology Department Policies and Procedures, State and Federal Regulations, and The Joint Commission guidelines.
• Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.
• Completes all in-services and competencies by the required date and applies gained knowledge.
• Positions patients accurately according to established protocols.
• Participates in the coordination of daily workflow.
• Provides minimal instruction and clinical supervision to radiology students regarding patient positioning, technique selection, equipment manipulation, and accessory device use to obtain radiographic images, adhering to program policies.
• Ensures all vital components of the imaging process are completed.

Requirements

• Must possess current Radiography license as required by state board (MD, OH, WV; no state licensure required for PA).
• Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography.
• Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
• State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.
• One (1) year experience as a Radiologic Technologist.

• Ability to interact positively with patients, families, and members of the Health Care Team.
• Ability to prioritize and deal with a variety of situations simultaneously.
• Ability to improvise with altered positioning techniques, manipulation of the equipment, and accessory devices when routine positioning is compromised due to patient’s condition, age, or ability.
