About the Role
As a Software Engineer on our Infrastructure or Platform teams, you will work on the core systems that power every Clay product, focusing on scalable execution, concurrency management, data storage, and building foundational infrastructure for product teams.
Responsibilities
- Scale, reliability, and performance: Address DB contention, memory pressure, throughput ceilings, and bottlenecks under increasing concurrency.
- Build platforms for other engineers: Define primitives, contracts, and extension points for shared infrastructure.
- Own execution and orchestration: Evolve work definition, scheduling, retries, and observation across the product.
- Make the system legible: Provide instrumentation for customers and engineers to understand system behavior and diagnose issues at scale.
- Handle system seams: Address challenges at the intersection of different systems, including input mapping, integrations, data access, and accounting.
- Raise the bar: Set technical direction, improve engineering standards through design and code reviews, and leave behind robust systems.
Requirements
- 8+ years of hands-on engineering experience building and operating production systems at scale.
- Proven track record of execution.
- Expertise in either scale, reliability, and performance (fixing contention, memory issues, throughput ceilings) OR platform and frameworks (building internal platforms for other engineers).
- Treat platforms as products, designing for consumer success and considering confusing abstractions a bug.
- Embrace product management alongside engineering, driving and owning areas end-to-end.
- Empathetic communicator, able to express nuanced ideas clearly to different audiences and prioritize curiosity in disagreements.
- Collaborate effectively to ship high-quality features, caring about craft and raising the engineering bar.
- Value diversity of perspectives, believing different backgrounds create better teams and products.
- Comfortable reasoning about distributed systems, concurrency, queuing, backpressure, failure recovery, and underlying data models.
- Familiarity with the current tech stack or ability to learn new technologies quickly.
