About the Role
The Manager Labor Relations is responsible for managing labor relations, including grievance, mediation, arbitration, and negotiations processes. This role involves collaborating with leadership, Legal, and Crew Relations for unionized work groups to maintain positive relations and company culture. The ideal candidate is an effective communicator, consensus builder, comfortable in non-routine environments, and a skilled influencer with strong time and project management skills.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the point person for all People department labor issues concerning Flight Operations/Dispatch, including administering and implementing collective bargaining agreements (CBA).
- Act as the People liaison during grievance, mediation, arbitration, and negotiations processes.
- Partner with operational leaders, Crew Relations, and Legal departments to ensure CBA and legal compliance.
- Oversee grievance, mediation, and arbitration processes and strategy.
- Support grievance mediation and collective bargaining negotiations, including acting as first chair.
- Conduct research, analysis, and prepare memoranda on Labor Relations issues.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on pilot/dispatcher concerns, tracking and driving resolution through project management and stakeholder accountability.
- Provide recommendations to leadership for driving change in areas influencing direct relationships with workgroups, including policy review.
- Create and deliver Labor Relations training, including investigative and discipline drafting.
- Counsel operational leaders and drive consensus on Labor Relations processes.
- Oversee the development and growth of direct reports and contribute to the development of other LR team members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field OR High School Diploma/GED with at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience.
- Five (5) years of labor relations experience, including drafting/negotiating collective bargaining agreements.
- Three (3) years of leadership experience.
- Experience presenting and facilitating in front of senior leadership.
- Ability to appropriately compile and utilize data to make decisions.
- Ability to communicate and influence at all levels of the organization.
- Familiarity with the Railway-Labor Act and knowledge of labor relations laws and best practices.
- Knowledge of other airlines’ labor issues and collective bargaining agreements.
- Proficient knowledge and use of Microsoft Office Suite products (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
- Available for overnight travel (30% to 50%).
- Able to work flexible hours.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located.
- Authorization to work in the US is required; this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
