About the Role

As an Excess Workers’ Compensation Regional Underwriting Manager, you will take ownership of the underwriting, service, and profitability of a regional book of business while serving as a key face of Safety National in the marketplace. You will evaluate new and renewal excess workers’ compensation opportunities, analyze complex exposures and loss histories, establish appropriate program structures and pricing, and negotiate coverage, premium, terms, and conditions with brokers within your underwriting authority.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate new and renewal excess workers’ compensation opportunities.
  • Analyze complex exposures and loss histories.
  • Establish appropriate program structures and pricing.
  • Negotiate coverage, premium, terms, and conditions with brokers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers and insureds.
  • Identify opportunities to grow and retain profitable business.
  • Meet directly with clients and risk management professionals.
  • Conduct facility visits.
  • Communicate the value of Safety National’s coverage and services.
  • Develop a pipeline of prospective accounts.
  • Collaborate with Business Development, Claims, Risk Control, Actuarial, Legal, and other internal partners.
  • Monitor market and workers’ compensation trends.
  • Coordinate underwriting and pricing recommendations.
  • Support cross-selling initiatives.
  • Participate in regional and national industry conferences.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and the development of excess workers’ compensation underwriting practices.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to less experienced underwriters and trainees.
  • Spend approximately 40% of time outside the office soliciting new business, building relationships, and maintaining renewal business.
  • Protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information and technology assets against unauthorized disclosure, destruction and/or alteration, in accordance with Safety National policies, standards, and procedures.

Requirements

  • 5 or more years of experience underwriting large workers’ compensation accounts.
  • Experience working on large excess workers’ compensation accounts in a sales, underwriting or analysis role.
  • Regional/local market knowledge of brokers and accounts.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a strong background in marketing.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while adhering to company underwriting guidelines.
  • Proficiency with computer applications including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Willingness to spend approximately 40% of time outside the office soliciting new business, building relationships, and maintaining renewal business.
  • Must be presently authorized to work in the U.S. without a requirement for work authorization sponsorship.

Salary/Compensations

  • $133,750 to $210,000
