About the Role

Practical Law is seeking an experienced capital markets lawyer with significant experience advising startups to join its Capital Markets & Corporate Governance team in the US. As a Senior Specialist Legal Editor, you will use your specialist legal knowledge and experience to create and maintain content for Practical Law and support the development of Thomson Reuters AI-powered legal solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Researching, drafting, and maintaining clear, current, and practical legal know-how content addressing the needs of startup companies for Practical Law and other Thomson Reuters products and initiatives.
  • Monitoring legal, practice, and market developments impacting startups to ensure content remains relevant and accurate.
  • Using legal expertise to support the development of customer-focused AI-powered tools, including identifying and implementing methods that address the intersection of content development and AI-driven legal solutions.
  • Partnering with Product Management to innovate on tech development, product enhancements, and the integration of AI into TR's offerings.
  • Using legal expertise and writing skills to support the development and application of internal AI editorial tools.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with external law firm contributors and industry groups to ensure content reflects market practice and meets customer needs.
  • Supporting sales, marketing, and other parts of the business, including responding to customer inquiries.

Requirements

  • JD required.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years' experience working as a lawyer in a law firm or in-house with a significant amount of experience working with startup companies.
  • Strong technical skills and the ability to effectively utilize various tools, including generative AI technologies, to enhance productivity and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated adaptability and flexibility to work on diverse projects and tasks within the generative AI space as well as new and emerging technologies.
  • Deep curiosity about the increasing intersection of AI and legal practice, with a desire to build legal prompt engineering skills and innovative content development methods that optimize AI responses for specific legal tasks.
  • Understand current market issues and proposals to enact, amend, or change laws and regulations impacting US startups.
  • Understand the needs and priorities of law firm attorneys, in-house counsel, and other startups professionals.
  • Skill and passion for writing and the ability to write about complex legal issues clearly and concisely in plain English.
  • Innovative, agile thinker with excellent time management, organizational skills, and demonstrated project management.
  • Enthusiasm for working on a dynamic editorial team, comfortable working in an environment of rapid change, and a passion for exploring how AI can revolutionize editorial content creation.
  • Candidates selected for a second interview will be required to submit a writing sample.
