About the Role

This role provides academic and operational leadership, administrative oversight, and quality assurance support for the Paralegal and Law Clerk programs, working closely with the Chair, School of Public Safety. The incumbent supports the Chair in ensuring compliance with Law Society of Ontario requirements, facilitating effective program delivery, and advancing student success.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational oversight and academic coordination for the delivery of the Paralegal and Law Clerk programs.
  • Act as the primary administrative liaison with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Provide oversight for day-to-day faculty, student and operational issues.
  • Support the Chair in ensuring program compliance with accreditation, academic, and institutional requirements.
  • Coordinate the completion of accreditation activities and institutional program review processes.
  • Monitor program delivery to support consistency with approved curriculum, institutional and professional standards.
  • Support processes to confirm that graduates meet competencies required for licensing progression.
  • Ensure marketing and admissions information is accurate, verifiable, and aligned with regulatory expectations.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and orientation of full-time and part-time faculty.
  • Assist in verifying faculty credentials and experience.
  • Coordinate teaching schedules and logistics.
  • Provide guidance and resources related to academic policies, classroom practices, and student support processes.
  • Facilitate faculty meetings and support communication and collaboration.
  • Participate in classroom observation processes and provide input.
  • Oversee operational processes supporting program delivery.
  • Support field placement processes.
  • Monitor instructional delivery and identify areas for continuous improvement.
  • Support the acquisition and coordination of instructional resources.
  • Assist the Chair with workload planning processes and resource utilization.
  • Lead operational initiatives that support student progression, retention, and success.
  • Support the resolution of student concerns.
  • Serve as a resource for complex student issues.
  • Guide students toward appropriate supports and institutional resources.
  • Support the Chair in long-term planning, including program development, curriculum review, and resource planning.
  • Lead or contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and program-related projects.
  • Coordinate Program Advisory Committee activities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with industry, community, and professional organizations.
  • Participate in marketing, recruitment, and outreach activities.
  • Represent the Polytechnic at external meetings, events, and advisory committees.
  • Support development of program communications and digital presence.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ progressive experience in a leadership position.
  • Experience in establishing policies and procedures in support of continuous improvement.
  • Specific knowledge of student success processes.
  • Minimum three (3) years of legal practice experience in Ontario as a licensed lawyer.
  • Post-secondary teaching or instructional experience is required.
  • Management experience in a post-secondary environment.
  • Demonstrated project management skills are preferred.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience, preferably in a related school discipline, is an asset.
  • Experience in establishing job performance levels, academic requirements, scheduling, administrative support, and basic accounting is considered an asset.
  • Law Society of Ontario licensee in Active Good Standing.
  • An undergraduate degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, is preferred.
  • A graduate degree (Master's) and/or a degree, diploma, or certificate in education is considered an asset.
  • Well-developed public relations and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire staff.
  • Proven ability to manage projects and deliver professional presentations.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and judgment skills.
  • Demonstrated organization, managerial, and project management skills with an emphasis on interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication/interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
  • Experience with database applications and learning management systems is an asset.
  • Familiarity with student information systems.
