About the Role
We are seeking an analytical and results-driven Buyer to manage our end-to-end purchasing lifecycle. In this core role, you will take full ownership of daily buying requirements, work with the Procurement Supervisor for product sourcing and implement strategic vendor initiatives to protect profit margins and ensure competitive pricing.
Responsibilities
- Execute daily purchasing functions, taking complete ownership and responsibility for all customer demands and corresponding buying requirements
- Maintain and control vendor files to ensure costs and specifications are accurate
- Manage vendor relationships and engage in continuous improvement strategies to optimize costs, delivery terms, and other related metrics to ensure maximum profitability and competitive costs
- Perform regular analysis on new & existing items to ensure our pricing is competitive & profitable
- Work closely with Operations and internal stakeholders to align purchasing with customer needs and expectations
- Work with Accounts Payable team to ensure vendor accounts are in good standing
- Track market price and sales trends for key commodities to time purchases and mitigate price volatility
- Prepare reports on buying metrics, savings, and trends for management
- Develop and implement buying plans and sourcing strategies for key spend areas
- Develop supplier programs, including performance scorecards, price models, and risk assessment programs
- Analyze supplier quotations to select the most cost-effective buying options without sacrificing quality
- Prepare customer proposals based on client specifications, ensuring accurate and profitable item costing
- Ability to work core business hours of 8:00am – 5:00pm Eastern standard time Monday through Friday
- Other duties as required
Requirements
- Some post secondary technical training from an accredited institution or minimum 2 years experience in buying
- Experience in packaging or redistribution would be an asset
- Strong mathematical skills
- Excellent analytical, interpretive, and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication/documentation skills
- Knowledge of effective negotiation skills and how to apply them to standard business transactions
- Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and schedule priorities
- Self-motivated, detail oriented and the ability to process confidential and/or controlled information
- Strong Microsoft office skills
- Previous ERP system experience would be an asset
- Excellent organization and planning skills with ability to perform multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines
- Ability to work in a team and autonomously with little direction
- Candidates who are 18 years or older are required to complete a criminal and background check
