About the Role
The Host is responsible for promptly greeting guests at the door in a warm and friendly manner, managing waitlists, and ensuring a positive dining experience from arrival to departure.
Responsibilities
- Greet and seat guests warmly and graciously.
- Open the front door for guests.
- Provide guests with menus and inform them of their server's name.
- Record guest names, party size, and provide estimated waiting times.
- Assign guests to suitable tables according to rotation.
- Call out names and party numbers when tables become available.
- Speak with guests to ensure satisfaction and address complaints.
- Answer telephone calls and respond to inquiries.
- Coordinate with kitchen staff, management, serving staff, and guests.
- Inspect dining and serving areas for cleanliness and proper setup.
- Inform guests of establishment specialties and features.
- Receive and record guest dining reservations.
- Inspect and clean restrooms.
- Direct guests to coatrooms and waiting areas.
- Relay messages to servers and bussers.
- Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return.
- Attend all employee meetings and offer suggestions.
- Coordinate with and assist fellow employees.
- Fill-in for fellow employees as needed.
- Take and prepare to-go orders.
- Operate cash registers to accept payments.
- Supervise and coordinate dining room staff activities.
- Order or requisition supplies and equipment.
- Assist with preparing and serving food and beverages.
Requirements
- Previous hosting experience preferred.
- 1+ year customer service experience.
- Basic reading and writing skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to count money and maintain a register.
- Knowledge of workplace safety procedures.
- Ability to determine wait time.
- Must visually scan restaurant for clean, unoccupied tables.
- Must be able to walk and stand during entire shift.
- Reaches, bends and stoops frequently.
- Remain stationary for long periods of time.
- Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
- Frequent washing of hands.
- Awareness of hazards such as slipping and tripping.
