About the Role

As a senior member of the Corporate Strategy department, this role is responsible for leading the formulation and execution of company-wide strategies to achieve mid-to-long-term global growth, based on Santen's core philosophy and Vision. You will work closely with management to identify and structure management issues from a company-wide perspective, and consistently lead from the proposal of actionable solutions to their execution and achievement of results.

Responsibilities

  • Examine business strategies and portfolios from a company-wide perspective, and identify key issues in the promotion of the mid-term management plan.
  • Organize company-wide management issues, promote the formulation and execution of solutions, manage progress and results through PDCA, and lead company-wide projects.
  • Lead the formulation of the company-wide mid-term management plan, and translate Santen Group's mid-to-long-term growth strategies into concrete actions in close collaboration with management.
  • Define organizational design, capabilities, and decision-making mechanisms necessary for strategy execution, and build structures and systems for execution and achievement of results.
  • Collect and analyze a wide range of quantitative and qualitative information on the internal and external business environment (market, competitors, regulations, macro environment, etc.), and structure key management issues.
  • Provide clear insights into management decisions and resource allocation directions, not just analysis, and contribute to the promotion of decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the Finance and Administration Department to formulate company-wide financial targets (sales, profit, capital efficiency, etc.).
  • Break these down into KPIs for each department and lead management operations that ensure consistency between strategy and figures through strict KPI management.
  • Plan and promote the introduction of management methods and governance enhancements to strengthen financial and investment discipline for the realization of the mid-term management plan.
  • Lead the transformation of processes for prioritizing and making decisions on management resources such as growth investments, costs, and human resources from a company-wide optimal perspective.
  • Lead issue resolution and consensus building within complex stakeholder relationships across departments and regions to achieve timely decision-making and execution.
  • Drive the end-to-end execution of strategies, ensuring they are reliably implemented in the field and reflected in the P/L and KPIs.
  • Build and develop a professional team with skills in strategy formulation, KPI management, and communication with management.
  • Emphasize fostering a culture and talent that can proactively act on management issues as their own, in addition to improving individual analytical and thinking skills.
  • Contribute to the improvement of the entire company's strategic execution capabilities by disseminating knowledge and working methods of the Corporate Strategy function throughout the Santen Group through cross-organizational and global collaboration.

Requirements

  • Approximately 5+ years of practical experience in formulating and executing company-wide strategies in a strategic consulting firm or a business company's corporate planning/strategy department.
  • Experience leading themes directly related to management, such as mid-term management plans, company-wide strategies, and key management issues.
  • Experience involved in execution and achievement of results through KPI design, progress management, and decision support, not limited to strategy formulation.
  • Business experience in the pharmaceutical/life sciences industry.
  • Ability to structure issues, clarify priorities, and reach conclusions for complex and uncertain management challenges.
  • Ability to integrate quantitative and qualitative information and present clear options for management decisions.
  • Endurance to think through from hypothesis building and verification to decision-making and execution.
  • Sufficient understanding of management figures such as business plans, profit structures, investment decisions, and capital efficiency.
  • Ability to design and operate numerical figures as management indicators that define strategy and actions, not just as results indicators.
  • Ability to discuss on equal terms with executives and senior managers, and to advance consensus building even amidst differing opinions and conflicting interests.
  • Leadership to drive decision-making and execution by engaging stakeholders, including overseas regions.
  • High communication skills to concisely and logically convey complex information without ambiguity.
  • Attitude of taking responsibility for maximizing team performance, not just individual achievements.
  • Motivation and experience to raise the thinking skills and perspectives of junior and mid-level personnel and improve the overall level of the organization.
  • Business proficiency in both Japanese and English.
