About the Role

The Residential Counselor provides supportive counseling to assist residents in achieving individual long and short-term goals and objectives, and crisis intervention as required. Responsibilities include service documentation, facility safety and security monitoring, customer service, and crisis management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supportive counseling to residents.
  • Assist residents in achieving individual goals.
  • Provide crisis intervention.
  • Document services provided.
  • Monitor facility safety and security.
  • Provide customer service.
  • Exercise good judgment in managing crises.
  • Work with an assigned caseload of residents.
  • Implement individual service plans.
  • Maintain accurate case records, progress notes, and service plan summaries.
  • Offer instruction and service delivery in various service categories.
  • Manage crises within the residence and intervene appropriately.
  • Notify supervisors and document events.
  • Order, supervise, and count medication (where applicable).
  • Provide counseling to clients/residents.
  • Lead recreational, counseling, and rehabilitation groups.
  • Escort clients to appointments.
  • Coordinate and participate in community activities.
  • Maintain facility safety and security.
  • Monitor video surveillance cameras.
  • Conduct hourly building walk-throughs.
  • Document building activities in the Communication Logbook.
  • Perform light maintenance and housekeeping.
  • Ensure visitors provide identification and sign in.
  • Conduct monthly fire drills.
  • Assess and respond to resident situations using de-escalation techniques.
  • Report crises, incidents, and emergencies immediately.
  • Maintain accurate client case records, including progress notes and service plans.
  • Conduct apartment inspections.
  • Provide support to clients with daily living skills.
  • Participate in residential staff meetings.
  • Remain on site until relief staff arrive.
  • Adhere to personnel and residential policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director or Regional Director.

Requirements

  • Must obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within 6 months of employment and maintain throughout employment.
  • Minimum two years’ experience working as a counselor in a residential, mental health or related setting.
  • Education may be substituted for some experience.
