About the Role

Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) provide essential support to individuals in Day Habilitation and ICF programs, focusing on self-care, health, safety, socialization, and overall well-being. They promote independence, facilitate personal growth, and assist with community integration through transportation and engagement. DSPs are committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse environment where every individual feels valued and supported.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the safety of program volunteers at all program sites and community locations.
  • Trains program volunteers to perform job tasks effectively.
  • Transports volunteers to and from program sites and community activities.
  • Acts as a liaison between volunteer job site staff and program volunteers.
  • Prompts volunteers to interact appropriately with peers and others.
  • Reports volunteer progress, satisfaction, and concerns to the Site Manager.
  • Completes all required documentation accurately.
  • Promotes and enforces agency philosophies and guiding principles.
  • Ensures volunteer safety and reports incidents to management and relevant authorities.
  • Attends all mandatory training and ensures certifications (CPR, SCIP, AMAP) are maintained.
  • Performs additional duties as requested by the supervisor.
  • Completes Personal Outcome Measures training prior to evaluations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Valid NYS Driver License

Skills

  • AMAP/First Aid/CPR/SCIP-R Training preferred
  • Experience working with people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities preferred
