About the Role
New Relic is seeking a strategic and technically adept Competitive Intelligence (CI) Director to lead its competitive intelligence program. This role involves tracking and analyzing competitors in the observability, monitoring, and AIOps markets to inform product and go-to-market strategies, enhance positioning, and increase win rates.
Responsibilities
- Own and scale New Relic’s global competitive intelligence program, including competitor tracking, battlecards, and playbooks.
- Develop and maintain in-depth, technically accurate coverage of key competitors, including product architecture, pricing, roadmap signals, and market positioning.
- Oversee the competitive win/loss program, analyzing reasons for wins and losses to generate actionable insights and recommendations.
- Act as a strategic advisor to Product Management, Product Marketing, Sales, and Analyst Relations, translating competitive intelligence into differentiated messaging.
- Deliver regular field briefings and performance readouts to GTM and executive leadership, quantifying CI program impact.
- Monitor competitor moves, funding, M&A, and category shifts using market intelligence tools.
- Scale AI-enabled CI workflows and automation, integrating with Salesforce, Slack, and enablement tools.
- Champion competitive readiness company-wide, briefing executives on market dynamics and competitive threats.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. export controls and licensing requirements for encryption software and technology roles.
Requirements
- 8+ years of progressive experience in competitive intelligence, with a preference for observability, monitoring, AIOps, DevOps, or infrastructure/cloud software.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent hands-on technical experience).
- Sufficient technical depth to evaluate observability and AIOps capabilities and engage with product teams.
- 4+ years of people management experience.
- 4+ years of experience building and running a CI program and platform at scale.
- Proven track record of developing battlecards, competitive playbooks, and win/loss programs that measurably improve win rates.
- Deep understanding of the observability, monitoring, and AIOps competitive landscape.
- Strong analytical rigor and fluency in using market intelligence tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of translating complex information into actionable narratives.
- Demonstrated ability to partner cross-functionally and operate autonomously.
- Experience designing or deploying AI/agentic workflows for CI or GTM enablement.
- Hands-on familiarity with Anthropic, Vertex/Gemini APIs and others.
- Experience integrating CI content into CRM and enablement platforms.
- Must be able to verify identity and eligibility to work and complete employment eligibility verification.
