About the Role
Athena Group Advisors is seeking a Vice President of Accounting to manage the end-to-end accounting lifecycle for a family office enterprise, principals, and affiliated non-profit organizations. This hands-on role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong judgment, and the ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Manage individual capital accounts, distributions, and contributions.
- Track and reconcile balance sheets, including illiquid and alternative asset holdings.
- Prepare customized reporting packages reflecting each principal’s unique entity structure and reporting preferences.
- Coordinate with tax, finance, and investment teams to accurately reflect portfolio activity in the books.
- Reconcile investment activity against custodian and administrator statements.
- Account for SPVs, manage capital calls, carried interest, and fee calculations, and track ownership percentages and allocations.
- Prepare and review consolidated and entity-level financial statements.
- Maintain general ledger integrity across a complex multi-entity chart of accounts.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes.
- Ensure accurate intercompany eliminations and reconciliations.
- Manage onboarding and offboarding of new entities and principals.
- Monitor cash positions across entities and coordinate funding.
- Maintain banking relationships and reconcile bank and custodial accounts.
- Develop, document, and automate cash management and treasury processes.
- Support the Director of Tax with K-1 preparation.
- Maintain records necessary for tax compliance.
- Assist with tracking tax basis and other tax attributes.
- Maintain accounting policies and internal controls consistent with SEC recordkeeping requirements.
- Support audit and compliance reviews with organized, audit-ready documentation.
- Ensure segregation of duties and proper approval workflows for disbursements.
- Collaborate with tax, finance, property management, and investments for accurate data flow.
- Support leadership with ad-hoc financial analysis and special projects.
- Maintain and improve accounting systems, workflows, reporting, and templates.
- Document accounting procedures.
- Manage third-party vendors supporting accounting and reporting.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- 7-10+ years of relevant experience, ideally at a professional accounting firm, multi-family office, or related environment.
- CPA required.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and multi-entity/consolidated accounting.
- Experience working across multiple legal entities simultaneously (LLCs, trusts, partnerships, charitable organizations, SPVs).
- Prior exposure to high-net-worth or ultra-high-net-worth individuals’ personal financial reporting.
- Experience supporting or working alongside tax, finance, and investment teams.
- Familiarity with partnership and trust accounting concepts.
- Advanced Excel skills; comfort building and maintaining complex reporting templates.
- High discretion, confidentiality, and data sensitive standards expected.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, comfortable interacting directly with principals and external advisors.
- High orientation to detail and accuracy.
- Adaptability to a growing and evolving organization; collaborative mindset.
- Ability to work cross-functionally to deliver coordinated, white-glove services.
