About the Role

Lead the compliance function in Europe for a global alternative investment platform, providing practical advice to support the business while maintaining high standards of regulatory compliance and ethical conduct. Ensure regulated activities of European businesses comply with applicable laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the FCA-approved Senior Manager for SMF16 (Compliance Oversight) and/or SMF17 (Money Laundering Reporting Officer or MLRO), and discharge associated responsibilities.
  • Lead and manage the UK-based investment compliance team and oversee UK investment advisers.
  • Oversee compliance with applicable rules and regulations for distribution activities in the UK and continental Europe.
  • Ensure compliance with UK MiFID and UK AIFMD regulatory frameworks for investment advisory, portfolio management, and AIFM activities.
  • Provide risk-based advice on the interpretation of laws, regulations, guidance, standards, and policies.
  • Monitor regulatory developments, assess their impact, and implement changes to compliance policies and procedures.
  • Develop, maintain, and review the Compliance Manual and related policies.
  • Support new products, fund launches, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives with compliance advice.
  • Support investor and client due diligence and respond to regulatory compliance inquiries.
  • Develop and oversee a risk-based compliance monitoring programme.
  • Manage conflicts of interest, personal account dealing, insider lists, information barriers, and customer due diligence.
  • Manage relationships with the FCA and other regulatory authorities.
  • Report compliance matters, regulatory developments, and monitoring results to senior management and governance committees.
  • Engage external legal counsel or regulatory advisers for specialist advice.

Requirements

  • Extensive compliance experience within an FCA-regulated asset manager, investment adviser, or alternative investment manager.
  • Experience leading and developing a team.
  • Experience serving as, or supporting, SMF16 (Compliance Oversight) and/or SMF17 (Money Laundering Reporting Officer) is preferred.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of the FCA Handbook, UK regulatory requirements, and the MiFID regulatory framework.
  • Experience supporting institutional private markets businesses, including private real estate, infrastructure and/or private credit.
  • Experience advising on alternative investment fund structures, fund launches, fundraising, marketing, and regulatory matters.
  • Experience interacting with the FCA and managing regulatory reporting, examinations, or supervisory engagement.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships across a global business.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to deadlines.
  • Sound judgement, analytical skills, and a practical approach to problem solving.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and able to operate effectively in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
