About the Role

User Rights is Europe's first out-of-court dispute resolution body specializing in social media, established under the EU's Digital Services Act. We handle over a thousand complaints monthly against platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok regarding content moderation decisions. We operate as a self-funded, regulated institution, growing rapidly and now seeking to build a dedicated finance function to manage planning, controlling, closing, payroll, invoicing, and regulatory financial frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Build financial plan, monthly reporting, and a cost/capacity model linking case volume, headcount, and revenue.
  • Establish monthly closing and payroll processes, manage interfaces with tax advisors and payroll providers, and maintain auditable books up to annual closing under HGB.
  • Manage invoicing to platforms and systematic follow-up of outstanding receivables.
  • Document the cost basis to withstand audits and platform objections, developing plans within the cost-recovery principle.
  • Establish financial and tax structures for European expansion, including transfer pricing and cross-border VAT treatment.
  • Manage liquidity and payment transactions, build internal controls (payment approvals, four-eyes principle, insurance), and manage public funding programs and grants.

Requirements

  • Seeking the opportunity to build a function from scratch in a fast-growing company, with the necessary responsibility and commitment.
  • Several years of responsibility in a senior finance or controlling role.
  • Experience building or significantly expanding a finance function and bringing tasks in-house from external advisors.
  • Proficiency in DATEV and modern tooling, automation, and AI; reporting generated from systems, not Excel.
  • Precise work and documentation that withstands audits.
  • Clear and audience-appropriate communication with the team, management, tax advisors, regulators, and platforms.
  • Structured and calm under pressure with multiple competing priorities.
  • Very good German (negotiation level) and excellent English.
  • Advantageous: Experience in a regulated environment, with fee or non-profit law, or cost accounting with proof requirements.
  • Advantageous: Experience with international structures, transfer pricing, or cross-border VAT.
