About the Role
The Outreach and Education Coordinator is responsible for developing, promoting, conducting, and documenting the Bronx Green-Up program's outreach, educational, and technical assistance activities. This role also involves organizing events, conducting workshops, managing volunteers, and handling administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
- Grow participation in and awareness of Bronx Green-Up activities and events through e-blasts, promotional materials, and social media campaigns.
- Develop, organize, and conduct activities and events to engage the public with Bronx Green-Up.
- Track and record all relevant data related to outreach, education, volunteer management, and technical assistance for required reports.
- Develop, coordinate, and teach workshops and training programs on compost and other horticulture topics.
- Provide technical assistance and training to Bronx residents, schools, community sites, neighborhood groups, and non-profit organizations interested in composting and community stewardship activities.
- Create tip sheets, handouts, flyers, signs, and other materials.
- Recruit, train, coordinate, supervise, and develop opportunities for volunteers interested in engaging with the Bronx Green-Up program.
- Perform tasks such as shoveling, weeding, loading/unloading plant and compost material in a variety of weather conditions.
- Perform additional Bronx Green-Up duties as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum two years of related work experience, preferably in community outreach, education, environmental programming or related field.
- Knowledge of and commitment to composting, community greening and environmental stewardship.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and other common computer applications.
- Experience working with the public, independently and as part of a collaborative team, in a variety of settings.
- Valid New York State driver's license.
- Local travel required.
- Weekends and some evening hours required.
- Bilingual Spanish/English skills preferred.
