About the Role

Our youth community justice programs deliver programming to young people aged 12- 24 in Ontario. These programs provide alternatives to formal court processes and/or custody, working to engage young people in skill development and to repair harm caused where possible. Reporting to the Supervisor of our youth community justice programs, the Attendance Program team of Youth Justice Workers are based at our Attendance Centre. The team works closely together to provide individual support and group programming to justice-involved youth, including skill-development workshops. This position is responsible for intakes, ongoing communication with the young person and referral source, case management, and ensuring programming meets the young person's needs.

Responsibilities

Delivering in-person and group programming on a regular basis and providing input and feedback into curriculum as needed
Using crisis prevention, intervention, and other de-escalation strategies with young people
Implement daily activities of the program, including ensuring regular programming and supports are in place for the youth
Participation in ongoing evaluation and feedback meetings with youth and team
Support in the development, collection, and review of evaluation data
Support placement students, as assigned
Develop and strengthen community partnerships and referral sources
Work closely with referral sources and partners including court personnel, Toronto District School Board (TDSB), Toronto Police Service (TPS), and community organizations
Foster relationships and represent the program and organization at network tables, community groups, and conferences
Actively participate in team and individual meetings
Consistent communication with referral sources and team members regarding the young person and their progression through the program
Timely and accurate reporting of referrals, case notes, meeting minutes, stats, and other required administrative duties
Support in the implementation of program evaluation and other reporting processes or special projects
Participate in strategic planning and other organizational initiatives and committees
Other responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

Minimum diploma in Social Work, Child & Youth Work, or related field
2 years’ experience working with youth and/or vulnerable populations
Some knowledge of and/or experience working within the youth justice system
Understanding of the many community organizations and supports available to young people
Direct experience engaging with diverse populations and an ability to apply a culturally responsive lens to all interactions
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders effectively, respectfully, and efficiently with minimal supervision
Experience in problem-solving and working through immediate challenges
Demonstrated experience in group facilitation
Proven ability to work collaboratively within and across teams
Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS)
Willingness to apply for Broad Record Check (BRC)
Understanding of relevant legislation and institutional policies (including the Youth Criminal Justice Act, Education Act, Safe Schools Act) is an asset
Knowledge of the social service organizations operating in Toronto and a willingness to broaden knowledge is an asset
Current Standard First Aid and CPR certificate, CPI, ASIST are an asset
Employment requires satisfactory VSS, references and proof of education
