About the Role
As Payroll Lead EMEA, you'll own the end-to-end payroll process for over 1,400 employees across the region, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. You will process payroll for the German hourly workforce and provide guidance to Payroll Managers for Israel and the rest of Europe. You will collaborate with Finance, People, and Operations teams to strengthen payroll processes as Via scales across Europe.
Responsibilities
- Own and drive the monthly payroll process for Via Germany, partnering with external payroll providers and internal teams for accurate and timely execution.
- Provide leadership and guidance to Payroll Managers across Israel and Europe, ensuring consistent standards and best practices.
- Monitor changes in German tax regulations, wage laws, and compliance requirements, ensuring processes remain aligned.
- Perform regular payroll audits to maintain accuracy and integrity of employee pay data.
- Proactively design and implement process improvements and internal controls.
- Manage benefit deductions and tax withholdings, ensuring precise, compliant calculations and reporting with confidentiality.
- Lead payroll-related financial reporting, including preparing journal entries and reconciling general ledger accounts.
- Support escalated payroll queries that the Support Operations team cannot resolve independently.
- Contribute to cross-functional projects and operational improvements that strengthen payroll processes and support the Finance team.
Requirements
- 7+ years of payroll experience in Germany, including with hourly/shift-based employees.
- Strong grasp of German local regulations and tax requirements.
- Familiarity with payroll in other EMEA countries (e.g., Israel, UK, France, Netherlands).
- Comfortable working with HRIS and payroll systems such as P&I Loga.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to meet strict deadlines independently.
- Clear communication and effective collaboration skills across Finance, People, and other internal teams.
- Proactive and process-driven, with a focus on improving workflows.
- Prior experience leading or guiding a team is a plus.
- Fluency in English is required.
- German language proficiency is a plus.
