About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to play a leading role in designing and building Redcare Pharmacy’s future headless checkout platform. As one of the first key technical hires in this greenfield domain, you will have significant technical autonomy and the opportunity to shape its architecture and technical foundations from the ground up.
Responsibilities
- Build and evolve the Headless Checkout platform, taking a hands-on role in creating scalable, channel-independent checkout capabilities.
- Shape the architecture by defining APIs, domain boundaries, and integration patterns.
- Drive technical alignment across Checkout, Payment, and other dependent teams.
- Mentor and grow engineers through pairing, design discussions, code reviews, and technical feedback.
- Enable future commerce by partnering with Product to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
Requirements
- Strong Java and backend engineering expertise.
- Experience designing and building backend services, platforms, and large-scale distributed systems.
- Comfortable contributing directly to production code.
- Operated at Staff/Principal level or demonstrated equivalent senior technical leadership.
- Strong system design and architecture capabilities.
- Ability to take significant technical ownership with a high level of autonomy.
- Comfortable working in a greenfield / 0-to-1 environment.
- Ability to explore options, evaluate trade-offs, and turn ambiguity into pragmatic technical decisions.
- Strong track record of mentoring engineers and leading through influence.
- Experience with checkout, order management, SaaS/platform engineering, e-commerce or marketplaces is a valuable plus.
