About the Role

The medical receptionist will assist the department with the coordination of daily front desk operations and other duties to ensure efficient workflow and patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all necessary receptionist duties including answering, screening, and routing of phone calls.
  • Take appropriate messages and ensure their proper delivery.
  • Be polite and courteous at all times.
  • Assess telephone calls, determining urgency and referring urgent medical queries to a physician or nurse immediately.
  • Maintain a clean and organized reception area.
  • Utilize Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and/or other systems for check-in/check-out processes.
  • Verify patient demographics and insurance information.
  • Obtain patient signatures on applicable patient forms.
  • Have the patient complete any paperwork associated with the visit.
  • Enter/scan patient data into the EMR.
  • Collect and process any necessary payments.
  • Facilitate patient flow by notifying the provider of patients’ arrival, delays or backlogs.
  • Communicate with other staff and/or patients as necessary.
  • Schedule patient appointments and remind patients of any necessary documentation.
  • Schedule any services or procedures as needed.
  • Obtain/retrieve referrals, authorizations, and eligibility verification.
  • Telephone patients regarding changes in the physician’s schedule or appointment rescheduling.
  • Keep office supplies adequately stocked by anticipating inventory needs and placing orders or advising the office manager.
  • Ensure HIPAA guidelines are followed at all times.
  • Provide additional coverage for night hours and weekends, as needed.
  • Update and maintain the integrity of client information.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Excellent typing skills and friendly telephone etiquette.
  • Proficient in using an EMR and a practice management system.
  • Regularly required to communicate with patients, staff, and medical providers.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Position is largely sedentary and requires the employee to remain stationary for a majority of the day.

  • $19.78 - $24.72
