About the Role

We are seeking skilled and passionate software developers to contribute to building exceptional products that empower the research community to advance scientific progress and understanding. This role involves joining a cross-functional delivery team focused on creating solutions that best meet business needs, fostering a culture of innovation within defined technological boundaries. The team operates within the Health & Professional domain, developing tools and services for medical professionals and supporting business partners.

Responsibilities

  • Provide incremental improvements to existing applications and design/build new features within Node.js applications and the browser via UI components.
  • Communicate and collaborate with multiple teams to identify areas of maximum value.
  • Contribute to frontend practices and technology that improve user experience across the business.
  • Work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and seniority levels, engaging in technology choice discussions.
  • Participate in team standups, slack channels, and other relevant channels.
  • Participate in retrospectives and post-incident review meetings.
  • Get to know product teams and build working relationships.
  • Demonstrate understanding of frontend development constraints, goals, and strategy.
  • Identify and complete tasks related to technical expertise in collaboration with the team.
  • Participate in code reviews and review pull requests from other teams.
  • Gain an understanding of product users through collaboration with the team and User Researchers.
  • Understand the architectural direction of frontend development and its alignment with domain products.
  • Contribute to meetings and discussions with other disciplines to understand business integration.
  • Spread knowledge of frontend playbook techniques (e.g., progressive enhancement, accessibility).
  • Build relationships with peers in the Frontend discipline.
  • Contribute to the open-source frontend playbook.
  • Engage with the Frontend Enablement team for expertise in performance, accessibility, and architecture.
  • Work with manager to identify and undertake training for professional development.
  • Foster understanding of goals and technologies through effective communication.
  • Contribute to technology discussions within the product area, providing solutions.
  • Become familiar with the design system.
  • Gain a complete understanding of product users through continued collaboration and User Research sessions.
  • Complete tasks related to technical expertise with minimal supervision.
  • Contribute to domain-wide meetings and discussions.
  • Summarize discussions for frontend leadership.
  • Identify potential problems within domain-specific codebases, describe issues, and propose solutions.
  • Implement techniques outlined in the frontend playbook in contributions and code reviews.
  • Engage early in the product cycle with Product teams to build robust products.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of technology across the Health & Professional domain.
  • Advise junior developers across the business with technical advice and constructive criticism.
  • Showcase good practices for frontend architecture within the domain.
  • Identify codebase improvements within the domain to mitigate future problems.
  • Contribute to discussions around complex solution design tradeoffs, referencing architectural requirements.

Requirements

  • Background in frontend development with knowledge of a wide range of methodologies and technologies.
  • Comfortable working at scale on complex, long-lived systems where robustness and maintainability are prioritized.
  • Experience working with people from different backgrounds and seniority levels.
  • Ability to influence technology discussions with knowledge of good frontend practices.
  • Good command of English.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and understand others.
