About the Role
The Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI) is a world-leading research institute in mobile and stationary communication networks. Our photonic integrated circuits are applied in sensor technology, medical technology, and quantum cryptography. Photonics is a dynamic field of applied research, and HHI holds a leading global position in optical data transmission, developing innovative solutions for communication networks and novel photonic applications.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate on the design and numerical simulation of photonic neural networks (PNN) using Python, Photontorch, and/or SAX.
- Assist in the creation and verification of PIC layouts and specifications for the photonic neural processor (PNP).
- Set up and evaluate experimental measurement setups for optical signal characterization (eye diagrams, BER, optical losses).
- Collaborate on the preparation of foundry submissions and coordinate with packaging partners.
- Assist in the development of digital and hardware demonstrators for presentations to industry partners and investors.
- Document results and contribute to scientific reports and presentations.
