About the Role

Develop, implement, and document therapeutic recreation programs and interventions based on a standardized clinical assessment of identified needs. Promote learning, growth, development, and skill acquisition in gross motor, fine motor, socialization, cognitive, and community integration skills.

Responsibilities

• Complete the Standardized Therapeutic Recreation Assessment for all children within 30 days of admission.
• Complete the Standardized Recreation and Leisure Service Profile to determine each child's recreation and leisure interests.
• Prepare a Therapeutic Recreation Clinical Summary specifying each child's strengths, needs, and clinical recommendations.
• Develop an individualized recreational plan with child input for integration into their comprehensive treatment plan.
• Develop therapeutic recreation goals, objectives, and methodologies addressing identified needs.
• Develop and maintain a system for data collection to measure child progress toward stated goals.
• Complete a monthly progress note based on measurable and observable data.
• Attend all required treatment planning and management meetings.
• Present therapeutic recreation findings and recommendations at clinic team meetings.
• Plan, develop, implement, and post a monthly Recreation Calendar for the residence.
• Participate as a permanent member of the treatment team in treatment planning and review.
• Assist with the implementation of specialized adjunct therapies (Music Therapy, Dance Therapy, Pet Therapy, Horseback Riding Therapy, etc.).
• Adjust work schedule to meet the needs of specialized community integration programs, potentially requiring evening and weekend hours.
• Provide Child Care Workers with ongoing in-service training on therapeutic recreation program implementation.
• Provide ongoing recreation and leisure in-service training to new employees.
• Coordinate equipment and supplies for therapeutic recreation activities.
• Attend required agency training, workshops, and seminars for continuing education.
• Successfully complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, annual CPR, and all other required agency trainings.
• Actively participate in program and agency-wide quality assessment and improvement activities.
• Attend pre-shift meetings and provide clinical direction to supervisors and staff regarding scheduled therapeutic activities.
• Maintain and monitor spending expenditures within recreation budget allocations.

Experience Level

• Master’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation with emphasis in therapeutic recreation, or one-year relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation with a minimum of three years’ experience treating seriously emotionally disturbed children and youth.

Education Level

• Master’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation with emphasis in therapeutic recreation
• Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation

Salary/Compensations

• $25.47 - $25.47 Hourly
