About the Role
The Field Service Engineer is responsible for executing on-site installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities for rotating equipment, including motors and generators. This role ensures optimal equipment performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction while adhering to safety and quality standards. We are seeking a highly motivated and technically strong Field Service Technician to support the commissioning, service, and lifecycle performance of advanced power electronics systems. In this customer-facing role, you will lead on-site activities, provide expert technical guidance, and ensure safe, reliable, and high-quality delivery across complex electrical installations. This position requires extensive travel (90%+) within the home country and internationally, offering exposure to diverse projects, customers, and technologies across industrial, energy, and marine environments.
Responsibilities
- Perform pre-commissioning, commissioning, servicing, and troubleshooting of Static Frequency Converters (SFCs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), low- and medium-voltage drives, switchgear, transformers, and power systems.
- Provide technical assistance, guidance, and supervision to customers during installation, commissioning, and service activities.
- Conduct on-site analysis and interpretation of operational data and provide technical instruction to customers and site personnel.
- Provide management with accurate and timely reports regarding safety, project and service status, customer concerns, equipment issues, and failures.
- Deliver on-site guidance and training in the proper operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of assigned equipment and systems.
- Support the Quality team in conducting root cause analyses and generating reports related to equipment malfunctions and failures to identify and analyse undesirable trends.
- Complete all required site documentation, including weekly safety reports, installation checklists, pre-commissioning records, commissioning reports, and service documentation.
- Perform hands-on replacement, testing, verification, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment and systems in the field.
- Adhere to company Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures and work in a safe and professional manner to ensure the wellbeing of personnel and the integrity of equipment.
- Effectively interface with customers, contractors, colleagues, and management in a clear, professional, and methodical manner.
Requirements
- Trade-qualified Electrician or holder of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Solid understanding of power electronics, electrical circuits, electrical power systems, medium-voltage equipment, and harmonic analysis, supported by strong hands-on technical skills.
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
- Hands-on experience using electrical test equipment, including data recorders, power analysers, oscilloscopes, insulation resistance testers, and high-potential (Hi-Pot) test equipment.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for short-duration assignments, often at short notice.
- Sound understanding of Health and Safety requirements and the hazards and risks associated with industrial electrical systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment and coordinate tasks with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Valid driver's licence and ability to obtain site-specific certifications and clearances as required.
