About the Role

The Janitor is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and janitorial standards at HomeRise properties, reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor. This role involves ensuring a safe and clean environment for residents and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all organizational safety procedures, policies and instructions.
  • Report significant safety concerns or physical plant problems.
  • Perform all assigned janitorial duties.
  • Rotate garbage and recycling per instructions.
  • Empty common-area trash cans.
  • Clear trash chutes.
  • Clear debris and maintain cleanliness of sidewalks and perimeter of site.
  • Clear debris or obstacles, clean up spills and ensure general cleanliness of all common areas.
  • Move furniture and other items within and between sites.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Prior experience with janitorial work or certification through a janitorial training program.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, be self-started, and self-motivated.
  • Ability to interact with staff, residents and visitors with professionalism and respect.
  • Adherence to an ongoing cleanliness program for each building and follow-through with assigned tasks.
  • Strong interest in doing social justice advocacy.
  • Valid phone number required.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical work.
  • Ability to work in an environment with regular exposure to water, soaps, cleaning products, noise, fumes or airborne particles, and in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in hazardous environments, exposed to noxious fumes and odors.
  • Ability to work near moving mechanical parts.
  • Ability to work in high, precarious places.
  • Ability to work in an environment with risk of electrical shock.
  • Ability to work in unique conditions outside a normal office environment.
