About the Role
DSI, a Quanta company, seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and engineering of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems for various projects. This role involves acting as the senior technical resource, guiding designs from concept to commissioning, and mentoring junior engineers.
Responsibilities
- Develop conceptual and detailed system designs from early concept through final construction documents.
- Represent engineering at project design coordination meetings as the senior technical lead.
- Produce advanced preliminary design layouts and redlines to support estimating and proposal efforts.
- Perform advanced engineering calculations, including heating/cooling load analysis, equipment sizing and selection, friction loss, and hydraulic calculations.
- Coordinate with fabrication shop to incorporate modular concepts into the design.
- Conduct site visits and field inspections to verify compliance with construction documents and resolve design issues.
- Provide technical oversight and mentorship to less-experienced engineers and designers.
- Support proposal development and budgetary/technical scoping for pursuits.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 8+ years of mechanical design experience, including experience leading design efforts.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and piping.
- Solid understanding of overall building system operations.
- Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical and plumbing construction documents.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively across all levels of staff, clients, and general contractors.
- Strong presentation and public-speaking skills.
- Proficiency with CAD/BIM tools and Microsoft Office (including Excel).
- Design-build or mechanical contractor project delivery experience.
- Experience with Revit MEP and BIM coordination workflows.
- LEED or CEM credential.
