About the Role
Success Academy Charter Schools is seeking a Competitive Swim Coach to develop and implement high-quality training programs for swimmers. This role focuses on athlete development, technical instruction, competition preparation, and fostering a positive team environment. The coach will also support the Grade 5 "Learn to Swim" program.
Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct swim practices aligned with team goals and athlete development.
- Provide technical instruction on competitive strokes, starts, turns, and finishes.
- Develop season training plans including conditioning, skill development, and competition preparation.
- Evaluate swimmer performance and provide constructive feedback.
- Foster sportsmanship, discipline, confidence, and teamwork.
- Prepare swimmers for local, regional, and national competitions.
- Attend swim meets and provide on-deck coaching.
- Develop meet lineups, entries, and race strategies.
- Analyze race performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Maintain attendance, training, and performance records.
- Communicate regularly with athletes, parents, and leadership regarding schedules, expectations, and progress.
- Ensure compliance with organizational, league, and governing body policies.
- Assist with team events, recruitment, and community outreach.
- Maintain a safe training environment.
- Enforce facility rules and safety procedures.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and incidents.
- Maintain current certifications for coaching and aquatic safety.
Requirements
- Previous competitive swimming and/or coaching experience.
- Certification through USA Swimming.
- Strong knowledge of competitive swimming techniques, training methodologies, and race strategies.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire athletes of diverse ages and abilities.
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications (or ability to obtain before hire).
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and competition schedules.
- Experience coaching age-group, senior, or elite swimmers (preferred).
- Knowledge of athlete development models and performance analysis (preferred).
- Experience using swim meet management and team communication software (preferred).
- Ability to stand on the pool deck for extended periods.
- Ability to demonstrate swimming techniques when necessary.
- Ability to lift and move coaching equipment up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work in a humid aquatic environment.
