About the Role

Mercury is seeking a Senior Product Designer to join the Cards & Credit team. You will address complex product challenges, question existing assumptions, and develop user experiences that enable startups to reduce their time spent on banking and increase their focus on building.

Responsibilities

  • Own Cards & Credit product problems from initial framing through shipped experience, partnering with Product and Engineering.
  • Transform complex systems, requirements, and edge cases into simple and intuitive experiences.
  • Work across the entire design stack, including problem framing, concept exploration, workflows, interaction design, visual design, prototyping, and implementation.
  • Explore broadly and design from first principles, questioning inherited patterns and assumptions.
  • Apply a high level of interaction and visual craft to the Cards & Credit experience.
  • Collaborate with the Brand team on physical cards and related products to ensure a cohesive customer experience.
  • Develop a deep understanding of customers, clearly communicate design decisions, and work through tradeoffs with partners.

Requirements

  • A strong portfolio showcasing exceptional product thinking, interaction design, and visual craft.
  • Ability to understand complex systems and translate them into simple, thoughtful product experiences.
  • Deep curiosity about problem origins and a willingness to question assumptions and work from first principles.
  • Real ambition for the work itself and a desire to do the best work of your career.
  • A high bar for craft and the judgment to identify areas where additional detail enhances the user experience.
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity and taking ownership without waiting for all requirements to be defined.
  • A habit of exploring multiple possibilities, prototyping ideas, and adapting direction when a better solution emerges.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including articulating thinking, explaining tradeoffs, and building conviction with partners.
  • Deep care for customers and a drive to create products that improve their lives.
