About the Role
ADAPT Community Network provides services to people with developmental disabilities. This role involves providing medical treatment, first aid, emergency care, and medications under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of the interdisciplinary team, assisting the Registered Nurse in coordinating healthcare services for assigned residences.
- Maintain progress notes for each client and summarize for reviews.
- Provide direct healthcare, hygiene, and health instruction to individuals receiving services and their families.
- Manage communicable diseases and infections, reporting findings and implementing preventive measures.
- Administer first aid and refer to a Registered Nurse or emergency services as needed.
- Assist physicians with medical examinations.
- Maintain a tickler for appointments, schedule appointments, and follow up on recommendations.
- Maintain accurate records of examinations, immunizations, illnesses, and accidents.
- Administer medications, supervise storage, and assist with ordering.
- Assist the Registered Nurse in maintaining AMAP re-certification files.
- Obtain consent for surgery in the absence of a Registered Nurse.
- Refer consults and diagnostic reports to the Registered Nurse for review.
- Attend and transport clients to appointments.
- Attend team meetings.
- Attend to clients’ medical conditions.
- Carry a beeper and be on-call, responding to questions regarding treatment plans.
- Stay informed about changes in the nursing field.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
Requirements
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with coworkers, employees, the people we support, families, and outside contacts.
- Ability to maintain the strictest confidentiality.
- Knowledge of equipment typically used by persons receiving services, including wheelchairs and adaptive devices.
