About the Role

We are seeking a Head of Finance to build our finance function from the ground up. As the first finance hire, you will be responsible for establishing accounting infrastructure, FP&A, tax and compliance, and investor relations. This role requires hands-on involvement, the ability to thrive in ambiguity, and the capacity to transition between detailed operational tasks and high-level strategic communication. You will report directly to the CEO and play a key role in major company decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Own the investor relationship end-to-end, including board materials, quarterly updates, cap table hygiene, and 409A valuations.
  • Lead financial preparation for future fundraising rounds, including data room management, diligence, financial narrative, and coordination with outside counsel.
  • Build and own financial models, forecasts, and budgets, with a strong understanding of SaaS metrics (ARR, NRR, CAC, LTV).
  • Manage cash flow, track burn rate, and provide insights on capital allocation and headcount planning.
  • Establish scalable accounting processes, controls, and systems, including monthly/quarterly close, financial statements, ASC 606 revenue recognition, and audit readiness.
  • Oversee federal, state, and local tax and compliance obligations.
  • Manage payroll, benefits administration, accounts payable, vendor relationships, and banking.
  • Hire and develop the finance team as the company grows.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of finance experience, including accounting, FP&A, and investor-facing roles.
  • Proven ability to build and create structure where none existed.
  • Demonstrated ability to hire and develop finance talent.
  • Strong command of GAAP, ASC 606 revenue recognition, financial modeling, and board-level reporting.
  • Fluent in SaaS metrics and experienced in building reporting infrastructure.
  • Experience supporting or leading a fundraise (Series A and beyond).
  • Comfortable managing tax, compliance, payroll, and equity administration.
  • Independent thinking and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of translating complex financials into clear narratives.
  • Ability to work 5 days a week from our San Francisco office or willingness to relocate.
