About the Role
Edenred is seeking a legal and compliance professional to ensure operations comply with internal guidelines and relevant laws and regulations, focusing on legal and data protection requirements in Japan.
Responsibilities
- Assist local leadership team on legal and compliance matters to facilitate business outcomes while mitigating risks.
- Draft and negotiate commercial agreements with clients, merchants, suppliers, and other parties.
- Review commercial contracts and consult with external lawyers to evaluate legal risk.
- Ensure operations, products, and services comply with local laws and regulations, including payment, tax, AML, anti-fraud, anti-corruption, data protection, and labor laws.
- Implement and monitor compliance with Edenred policies and procedures related to legal and compliance topics.
- Advise local leadership team on legal matters critical to business growth, collaborating with internal stakeholders to research and evaluate risks.
- Draft and help negotiate a range of legal agreements and contracts in collaboration with local/regional/headquarter teams.
- Assist with corporate affairs, including compliance with corporate laws and regulations.
- Work with regional data protection correspondent in rolling out Group data protection compliance programs and updating local policies.
- Ensure Japan operations comply with local laws, Group guidelines, and industry standards.
- Support local Sales, Operation, and IT teams in responding to customer inquiries regarding personal information protection, information security, and data protection.
- Define and deploy local data protection and compliance roadmaps.
- Oversee management of data-related incidents.
- Negotiate data clauses of contracts with customers and suppliers.
- Regularly monitor the evolution of local data protection regulations and standards.
- Coordinate communication with local data protection authorities with support from the Regional Data Protection Correspondent.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Law.
- Relevant certification(s) in data protection.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in legal and compliance, preferably in an MNC.
- Experience in contract law, corporate affairs, and data protection.
- Proven experience in providing advice and guidance to senior management on legal, compliance, and data protection issues.
- In-depth knowledge of local regulations and guidelines relating to data protection and of GDPR.
- Understanding of data protection challenges in the technology sector.
- Track record of developing, implementing, and ensuring compliance with data protection policies.
- Proficiency with compliance tools/software (e.g., One Trust).
- Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving aptitudes.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills (verbal and written English).
- Solid track record of building productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders in an international environment.
- Experience in negotiation, mediation, and co-operation.
